John Rowa – Who I Will Be
It would be nice to wrap this into a nice, story-telling format that explains how I became who I am and why I do what I do. But, the honest answer is: I don’t even know if I can fully answer those two questions because my story isn’t yet complete.
People like to think that they are who they are because of what they’ve done, where they were born, who they were born to, or what they’ve accomplished. But I believe that who I am isn’t about where I’ve been, but where I’m going.
You see, I’m a work in progress. I can be prideful, selfish, lazy, unfocused, lacking in knowledge, and hurtful. I’m as imperfect a man as one can be. But while I can say with full transparency that I have been those things, I know, by grace, those things are NOT ME!
Few ever reach full potential, but even fewer stop to think what their full potential could be.
I like to think that the man I am now isn’t who I will be tomorrow — that my potential is to be loving, a seeker of wisdom, respectful, caring, charitable, hard-working, knowledgeable, and full of mercy. I want to be the man that I am called to be.
So, how will my story end? Only One knows for sure, but at the end of it all, I hope others will say, “He was a better man today than he was yesterday.”
